I often wondered if this was a warning or a threat… then I saw Waingake road…

Gisborne District Council plans to let Waingake Road—the key access route to our city’s main water supply—revert to a metal (gravel) road. This move is raising serious concerns within the community. Waingake Road is not only critical for accessing and maintaining the water supply. Downgrading it to gravel increases the risk of damage, dust, and dangerous driving conditions—especially in wet weather. It could also slow emergency or maintenance access during critical times. Locals are asking whether a proper risk and cost analysis has been carried out. With growing pressure on infrastructure resilience many are calling for the Council to reconsider its decision. If you’re concerned, speak up. Contact the Council, ask questions, and help protect access to our essential services.
